In this episode of the Spinoso Podcast, I’m diving into a question I got over the weekend at a BTL event: how do you know when you’re ready to expand to new locations? Expansion can be a game-changer, but it can also be a major headache if you move too fast or choose the wrong areas. Reflecting on my own journey, if I could do it again, I’d focus on saturating one market completely before jumping to the next. By growing and maximizing one clinic to its full potential, you avoid spreading yourself too thin and set a strong foundation for future locations. Expanding too quickly across states, as I did, can spread resources thin and create unexpected challenges.
One of the key things to consider before expanding is demand. If your clinic has a waitlist of four to six weeks, that’s a strong sign it might be time to open another location or extend your hours. But location matters. It’s tempting to build in areas where you already have clients coming from nearby, but if they’re willing to travel to your original clinic, building closer might not increase your client base; it could just split it. Instead, look for areas with the right demographics, strong local businesses like Whole Foods or Lifetime Fitness (who do heavy market research), and don’t shy away from competition if you know you can out-market them.
Finally, as you grow, you must keep your core values at the center. Every new location needs a leader who lives and breathes those values, ensuring they guide every hire, every decision, and every interaction. I’ve learned the hard way that if a clinic or partner doesn’t align with our core values, things fall apart. When expanding, make sure cash flow is solid, don’t take on unnecessary debt, and focus on core services with minimal overhead. Hope you find these insights helpful. Thanks for listening, and as always, I’d love your feedback—please like, share, subscribe, and message me with any questions you’d like answered!
