In this episode of the podcast, I dive deep into the importance of core values and how they serve as the backbone for making key decisions in our company. Whether it’s about the services we offer, the people we hire, or those we have to let go, core values keep us grounded. They not only guide us as leaders but also help remove any ambiguity when tough decisions have to be made. By consistently hiring, reprimanding, and even letting people go based on these values, we ensure there’s no room for personal biases or misunderstandings. It’s not just about the CEO’s preferences; it’s about whether someone aligns with our values and mission.

I also touch on the challenges of balancing loyalty with efficiency. Sometimes, as much as we appreciate a loyal team member, they may not be able to perform at the level needed. This can be tough, but it’s necessary for the greater good of the team. It’s not about a lack of effort; it’s about maintaining high standards and ensuring that every team member contributes effectively. I share my personal experiences with how difficult it is to let people go, even when it’s the right thing for the business. Ultimately, it’s about being direct, clear, and giving people the chance to improve, but if they can’t meet the standard, we have to make the tough call.

As we scale, keeping these core values intact becomes even more critical. With over 80 locations and a growing team, I make it a point to weave our core values into every conversation, meeting, and decision. Repetition is key, and I ensure that no matter how often I talk about them, it resonates with the team. Whether it’s through our internal communication channels or during corporate meetings, our core values are always front and center, and that’s how we maintain our vision while growing exponentially.
