Your core values are the foundation for hiring, firing, rewarding, and growing your business. When my company started, it was just me, my partner, and one nurse. Our core values were based on who we are. Describe yourself with words like integrity, accountability, and growth to define your core values.

As you grow, involve your staff using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). Ask your team to identify someone who could run the business and three qualities that make them a great candidate. These qualities become your core values. Narrow them down to three to eight core values and ensure they are embedded in your daily operations.

For instance, Ritz Carlton reviews a core value every morning across all their hotels, teaching and sharing stories about it. In my business, we have cards and bookmarks with our core values and discuss them regularly. When reprimanding staff, refer to these values to guide behavior and decisions.
